Manzanillo es una Ciudad y Puerto de altura de alrededor de 190 mil habitantes. El puerto de Manzanillo esta ubicado a solo una hora de la Ciudad de Colima, Capital del Estado y está ampliamente conectado al interior del País con solo 3 horas de la Ciudad de Guadalajara. Esto hace a Manzanillo la playa de El Bajío. Actualmente se lleva a cabo una importante obra de ampliación de la autopista a 6 carriles en todo el territorio de Colima que lo hará más cercano al centro del país.
A Manzanillo lo comprenden distintas poblaciones en la que destacan el Centro, Santiago, Salagua y Miramar. Juntos forman el pilar de este Municipio. Son uno mismo con una población muy distribuida a lo largo del litoral.
Manzanillo inicio como un puerto turístico internacional en la década de los 70´s sustentado en su belleza natural y sus bahías gemelas que aún guardan un amplio potencial de desarrollo turístico, sobre todo la Bahía De Santiago con mucho espacio esperando un gran desarrollo, así como la zona de la Península de Juluapan, La zona de Majagua, todo el litoral de Peña Blanca hacia el aeropuerto y aunque en disputa territorial, Playa de Cocos colindando con Jalisco y perteneciente a Colima.
Hoy en día, aunque cuenta con vocación turística con mucho potencial real, su economía está más relacionada a la actividad portuaria hasta en un 70%, eléctrica y minera. Esto hace a Manzanillo una ciudad económicamente diversificada y muy estable.
Actualmente se ha dado el inicio de la ampliación del Nuevo Puerto de Manzanillo sobre la laguna de Cuyutlán, que triplicará su capacidad de movimiento de carga de contenedores en los siguientes 10 años.
Por estas razones, Manzanillo es la Capital económica del Estado de Colima y el municipio más extenso. Paso a paso está obteniendo el peso político que le corresponde, mejorando su infraestructura comercial, infraestructura urbana y mejorado la calidad de servicios para su población.
Manzanillo está definido como un destino familiar, muy tranquilo, pero con mucho dinamismo empresarial y abierto a la inversión.

Colima’s Economic Engine and Mexico’s Most Important Port
Manzanillo is a thriving city and deep-sea port with a population of approximately 190,000. Located just one hour from the state capital, Colima City, and only three hours from Guadalajara, one of Mexico’s largest metropolitan areas, Manzanillo enjoys strong connectivity to the country’s interior. This strategic location positions Manzanillo as the beach destination of the El Bajío region.
A major infrastructure project is currently underway to expand the highway that traverses Colima to six lanes, further reducing travel time from the central regions of Mexico and enhancing access to the port.
The city of Manzanillo comprises several key districts, including the Downtown area, Santiago, Salagua, and Miramar. Together, they form the backbone of the municipality, with a population dispersed along the coastal stretch.
Manzanillo began its development as an international tourist destination in the 1970s, capitalizing on its natural beauty and twin bays. These bays still hold enormous potential for tourism growth—particularly Santiago Bay, which offers ample space for new developments. Promising areas for future investment include the Juluapan Peninsula, the Majahua zone, the entire Peña Blanca coastline extending toward the airport, and the Cocos Beach area—currently in a territorial dispute but officially part of Colima and bordering Jalisco.
While tourism remains a significant aspect of its identity, Manzanillo’s economy today is primarily driven by port operations, which account for roughly 70% of local economic activity. Additional contributors include the energy and mining sectors, making the city both economically diverse and stable.
A major expansion of the Manzanillo Port has begun, extending into the Cuyutlán Lagoon. This ambitious project is expected to triple the port’s container-handling capacity over the next decade, reinforcing Manzanillo’s role as Mexico’s premier maritime gateway.
Thanks to its economic strength, Manzanillo is recognized as the financial capital of the state of Colima and its largest municipality by area. The city is gradually gaining political influence, while also advancing in commercial infrastructure, urban development, and quality public services.
